Pearl Harbor and USS Missouri
Pearl Harbor and the USS Missouri stand as poignant symbols of both tragedy and triumph in American history. Pearl Harbor holds the memory of the infamous December 7, 1941 attack, a pivotal moment that drew the United States into World War II. Visiting the historic site provides a solemn reflection on the sacrifices made and the resilience displayed during that time.
The USS Missouri, known as the "Mighty Mo," serves as a contrasting chapter, as it was the site where Japan formally surrendered to the Allies, effectively ending World War II. Now a museum ship, the USS Missouri offers a firsthand look at naval history and the monumental events that unfolded on its decks. This was one of my kids' favorite excursions.
Together, Pearl Harbor and the USS Missouri encapsulate the full spectrum of wartime experiences—from tragedy to victory—and serve as important reminders of the courage and sacrifices that shape the course of nations.
